No more one-shot tactics

Sandfall Interactive has recently rolled out the Patch Notes 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur Expedition 33 on May 9, 2025, which brought some balance changes.

Many bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements as well, with the latest update that will make the game more fun for the fans.

The update, which debuted on Steam and is now accessible on all platforms, addresses community criticism while nerfing the game’s most powerful build.

Nerf: Taming Maelle’s game-breaking build

The most standout change done in the new update is a 40% damage reduction to Maelle’s Stendhal skill, which previously allowed players to deal billions of damage, one-shotting even the final boss.

Stendhal outperformed other builds thanks to the Medalum sword’s Virtuose Stance (200% damage increase).

Sandfall Interactive confessed on X that a pre-release damage buff was excessive, saying, “We still want you to break the game, but Stendhal was too easy.”

A bug update also guarantees that Medalum’s third Lumina only doubles Burn damage, not all damage, which helps to balance Maelle’s kit.

Stendhal remains a powerful single-target talent with synergistic potential.

Weapon and Skill Tuning

There are also some changes in other weapons as well:

  • Lithelim: Fixed high-level attribute scaling, lowered beginning Vitality scaling (A to C, maxes at S), and introduced D-tier Luck scaling.
  • Blizzard: Fixed high-level scaling, reduced initial Luck scaling (B to C, maxes at S), and introduced D-tier Defense scaling.

Bug Fixes and Quality-of-Life Improvements

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Patch 1.2.3 also fixed many bugs and brought some improvements as well:

  • World Map: Fixed geometry issues that caused players and Esquie to become stranded at Stone Wave Cliffs, Flying Waters, and other spots.
  • Gameplay: Fixed Free Aim shooting issues with worn triggers, and included a New Game+ boss battle in Stone Wave Cliffs.
  • UI and Controls: We improved the Steam Deck menu displays, enabled PS5 controller support for PC Game Pass, and solved mouse/keyboard navigation difficulties.
  • Ultrawide support includes corrected zoomed gameplay, stretched menus, and letterboxed cutscenes in 32:9 resolutions.
  • Quests & Cutscenes: Fixed a bug that caused Lune and Monoco to spawn together in Level 6 quests, as well as a game-breaking Old Lumière cutscene.
