One of the most anticipated games of all time, GTA 6, is all set to launch on November 19, 2026. The prices have been revealed and the pre-orders are currently live for PlayStation and Xbox.
There is no doubt that many fans and players are hoping to get 60fps on console; however, a former Rockstar Games technical director believes this might not happen.
GTA 6 might not get 60fps on console
During a recent interview with Kiwi Talkz, Ricchio explained that he might not be involved in the development of GTA 6 and has no insider knowledge; however, his experience working with Rockstar leads him to believe that the studio will target 30fps on consoles.
According to him, Rockstar Games has always focused more on creating a dense, immersive open-world filled with advanced AI, NPCs, realistic physics, and detailed environments.
Achieving all this while still maintaining 60fps world requires many compromises. So, instead of sacrificing world details, Rockstar would want to provide 30fps and 40fps (PS5 Pro) on the current consoles.
Why could 60 fps for GTA 6 be difficult?
The modern consoles are powerful, but running an open-world game such as GTA would require a lot of heavy performance from the CPU. GTA VI is expected to feature:
- Massive city environments
- Dynamic NPC behaviors
- Improved AI routines
- Advanced physics systems
- High-quality lighting and reflections
- Dense traffic and crowd simulation

This might be too heavy for the current CPUs on console to provide a maintainable 60fps experience. According to Ricchio, this might be impossible on the current-generation console.
It is also important to note that nothing is officially confirmed by Rockstar Games yet. We also have not seen a new trailer or any gameplay footage of the game yet.
Will GTA 6 run at 60FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X?
Rockstar has not confirmed any performance targets yet. However, former Rockstar Technical Director John Ricchio believes the game will most likely target 30FPS on consoles.
Why is GTA 6 expected to run at 30FPS?
The game’s massive open world, advanced AI, realistic physics, and dense environments require significant CPU power, making 60FPS difficult on current-generation hardware.
Will PS5 Pro have a better frame rate in GTA 6?
Nothing has been officially confirmed. The PS5 Pro may offer enhanced graphics or potentially a 40FPS mode, but a native 60FPS mode remains uncertain.
