Football Manager 27 reveals major engine upgrades, tactical tweaks & gameplay improvements

Sports Interactive has now shared a new deep-dive video about Football Manager 27, which highlights a wide range of improvements that were made to its match engine and tactical system.

The developers have focused on creating more realistic player movements, smarter AI decision-making, better tactical control and more. Let’s check out some more details in this article.

Smarter AI & more realistic player movement

The movement system is getting a huge improvement in FM 27. Players will now accelerate, decelerate, turn, and change direction more naturally. Real match footage and sports scientists really played a huge role in it.

Fitness is also going to play a bigger role this time in Football Manager 27. Players who have high stamina can make repeated sprints more frequently.

Tired players will require longer recovery time before making another explosive run. Attacking players are receiving new dribbling animations and skills such as heel chop and elastico.

Defenders will react much better against pacey attackers. They will have better positioning during one-on-one situations.

Better tactical flexibility & tweaks

Football Manager 27 is also getting smarter attack intelligence near the penalty area. You can see more intelligent off-the-ball runs, exploit defensive blind spots, and avoid crowding in the same space.

The manager can also assign new attacking instructions that will determine how the player will attack or approach the penalty area.

The other big addition is the Tactical Tweaks system. Managers will no longer have to access the full tactics screen, enabling them to make in-match adjustments from the touchline and be able to respond to the game situation more readily.

Improved player reaction & match analysis

There has also been an increase in touchline interactions. New to the Team talks / shouts, it now takes player personality and mentality into consideration, which means that players may respond differently to the same instructions.

Outside of the action, Football Manager 27 introduces a new feature that adds match highlights between chunks, and adds to the Data Hub’s stats, widgets and adaptable interface. Such tools can aid managers in more in-depth assessment of performances and adjustment of tactics.
