The game is scheduled to release on October 6, 2026

Xbox console exclusive, Gears of War E-Day is already shaping up to be one of the biggest releases for Xbox this year. This game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC.

While the hype for this game is unreal since they have released the gameplay, edition and release date details, there are some interesting reports that have been released online.

According to industry insider Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming Podcast, this game’s development budget exceeds $400 million. If the reports are true, then there is no doubt that this would place this game among the most expensive titles ever produced.

Massive budget leads to pressure

According to Henderson, Gears of War E-Day development budget has grown so much that even launching a PlayStation 5 launch day port might not have fully recovered the development cost.

Now, this report is even more interesting as at the Xbox Games Showcase, Asha Sharma revealed that this game will be a console exclusive along with a PC release. The planned PS5 port seems to be cancelled.

This decision has raised questions about the game by some industry experts, who have said that restricting the game’s audience would make its astronomical cost even harder to justify.

Based on the reported development budget, cancelling the PS5 port surely seems to be a stupid idea. They might have impressed and made their fans happy with the console exclusive, but this might put a lot of pressure on sales and on recovering the development cost.

More Xbox exclusives

With the recent Xbox Games Showcase and new strategies being implemented at the gaming division, we are seeing Xbox leaning more towards exclusivity slowly.

For now, Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are expected to remain in the Xbox console ecosystem.

They believe the exclusives are essential and a huge part for strengthening the Xbox brand. In this way, they can also make the players to subscribe for Xbox Game Pass.
