According to the official Rockstar support page, players who have purchased the physical boxed edition of GTA VI in Japan will receive a digital download code.
The most important part is that this code should be redeemed within 170 days of purchase. If the code isn’t activated before the expiry date, it will no longer work.
This restriction only applies to PlayStation 5 versions sold in Japan.
Xbox users are not restricted because Xbox codes are handled differently and are not subject to the regional limitations.
A retailer might eventually send the unsold copies when the codes expire, but if customers buy an older copy without reading the expiration date, they may have trouble later on.
