Understanding the upgrade in specs
Many people and content creators have started to get their hands on their PS5 Pro, as the pre-orders were already started back on September 26, 2024. It will officially launch on November 7, 2024.
Some of them have shared some crucial specs and information about the latest console on the Gamingleaksandrumors Reddit forum. Let’s check out more details in this article.
PS5 Pro specs & more details
The first information about the PS5 Pro which was posted on the forum was about its ability to enhance image quality for some PS4 titles.
You will get a particular option in the settings that can be turned on to enhance image quality for PS4 games. It also supports 8k output as well. A gamer used this enhanced image on the game Bloodborne and saw quite a difference in the image quality.

Also, the Pro has a power supply rated for 390W, 2GB of extra DDR5, and the GPU is 16.7 TFLOPS. The original PS5 had a 350W PSU, thus this is 40W more than that. It didn’t draw 350W, but rather around 200W in more intensive games. So I would expect the PS5 Pro to consume anywhere from 240W to 260W in heavier titles.
In regards to the extra DDR5, it’s something we expected but didn’t have confirmation on. It’s essentially what the PS4 Pro did: provide extra dedicated memory to swap out non-gaming apps, freeing up more VRAM for developers to use.
Major differences between PS5 Pro and PS5:
- 16.7 TFLOPS vs 10 TFLOPS
- 2TB SSD vs 825GB SSD
- Added 2GB DDR5 Memory
- Added WiFi 7 Support
- Extra USB-C port replaces a USB-A port
- 390W Max Power vs 350W Max Power
The PS5 Pro offers a 45% higher rendering capability than the regular PS5. The RTX 4070 Ti outperforms the RTX 2070 Super by around 106% in rendering performance. Your GPU outperforms the Pro, and it is not power-constrained by the CPU, as is the case with the Sony console.
The PS5 Pro is equivalent to selling your RTX 2070 Super for a 2080 Ti or 3070 Ti but maintaining the same 5-year-old mid-range CPU as the limiting factor.
