Sony’s mobile strategy gets a boost

Sony’s mobile gaming ambition might be going for a home run with a potential MLB The Show mobile version.

Now, Sony has not been quite successful when it comes to mobile games. A great example is shutting down German developer Neon Koi and leadership churn in its PS Mobile business.

However, a recent job posting on Reddit reveals Sony’s San Diego Studio is preparing for a mobile spin-off of its flagship baseball franchise.

Full-fledged MLB The Show mobile version

The Senior Product Manager job description includes responsibilities such as “retention” and “monetization strategies,” which are common in mobile game development.

It talks about collaborating with several teams to “drive new product features and optimize existing ones to make MLB The Show Mobile an amazing game.”

It clearly indicates that this time, it would be a full-fledged title, not just an extension of the existing MLB The Show 25 Companion App.

This is a great strategic move by bringing this mobile version. Rivals like EA Sports FC, NBA 2K, and Madden NFL have excelled on smartphones, providing simple but interesting experiences.

Expect a focus on Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show Mobile, where players can gather and assemble dream teams with streamlined gameplay for shorter sessions.

This is consistent with Sony’s efforts to spread the franchise across platforms, particularly as MLB seeks a larger reach.

You also have to remember that MLB The Show 25 continues to dominate as a top seller in the U.S. There is no doubt that the mobile version will be a perfect and super hit among the fans.

The game’s performance on the PS5, which was acclaimed for its realistic simulation and depth of features, should adapt well to mobile, with changes for touch controllers and bite-sized play.
