Microsoft’s Xbox gaming department saw some big changes this week, with Asha Sharma named the next CEO of Xbox. According to a recent podcast by Jez Corden of Windows Central, Microsoft is planning the next Xbox launch for late 2027, this is under consideration.

One of the biggest points from this podcast is that the next Xbox could run full Windows. This would be a major shift in their strategy.
Instead of being a closed console ecosystem, the device may possibly have even more PC-like access, including Steam and other Windows-based stores.
This approach will surely make this a hybrid console and a gaming PC. This might expand its software compatibility and maintain entry into the existing Xbox ecosystem, including backward compatibility.
There are ambition to “go hard” with pricing and marketing. Cordon has already cautioned that this console might carry a premium price tag.
He also talked about the potential first-party handled:
“I have heard that they still want to do a handheld. They still want to do a first party handheld.”
Xbox Game Pass changes under consideration
It appears that subscription services are once again under consideration, according to Jez Cordon. There are many questions raised internally about the perceived value of the higher-priced Ultimate tier.
“Is Game Pass worth $30? Like I don’t think it is right now.”
The new idea might be bundling additional subscription such as services tied to World of Warcraft, Fallout 76 (Fallout First), and Minecraft Realms, into Game Pass Ultimate.
