Nioh fans are so back!

Team Ninja recently announced Nioh 3 at PlayStation State of Play and it is going to release in 2026. The best part was that they also announced the demo is currently live on PS5.

After watching the State of Play, I switched on my PS5 to try the demo of my favourite series (Nioh 2 is my favourite). Is this game any good, like the previous one? Let’s find out in this article.

Same mechanics with new features

Nioh 3 demo is around 33-34 GB on PS5 and provides a lot of content for the fans to get familiar with this new upcoming game.

Towards the start, it will ask you to play a tutorial before you can get into the main gameplay. This is for the new players who haven’t played any Nioh or Team Ninja game.

After getting familiar with the combat mechanics, you can start the main story. From the start, it sends you to the battle.

Now, the combat mechanics are pretty much similar to Wu Long, Rise of Ronin and old Nioh games. You also have Yokai Guardian spirits as well.

However, this time you have fighting styles which can be switched back at any time: Samurai and Ninja.

You can block, parry, dodge, attack with light and heavy attacks, ninjutsu and different weapons. The main thing while fighting is to pay attention to your Ki, aka Stamina.

The combat flow is smooth and the attack animations for players and enemies are really good. One complaint that I had was that I felt the Nioh 3 demo was a little too easy.

I don’t know if it’s a demo or will be solved later at full launch, because the Nioh series is known for difficulty.

The Nioh 3 cutscenes in between have improved and there is not too much stuttering or frame drops in them. Wu Long’s cutscenes were really bad and had too much frames drop.

Nioh 3 seems excellent and you can see the confidence in Team Ninja to provide such a big demo to play so early.

If you haven’t played any Nioh game before, you should absolutely try this. The demo is currently free on PS5 and the game will release in early 2026. This will be a day one purchase for me.
