Bretons are the top choice
Virtuos and Bethesda Studios have finally shadowdrop Oblivion Remastered on April 22, 2025. Fans are once again fully immersive with the 2006 RPG.
However, the new players might get a little confused about selecting the race. Which is the best one to play? Let’s check out more details in this article.
Why Bretons are the best?
Bretons are considered to be the best and most picked by veterans in this game. Their natural 50% magic resistance protects them from spell-heavy opponents.
While a +50 Magicka bonus and high Intelligence and Willpower stats make them excellent mages.
As a start, you will also get boosted Conjuration, Mysticism, and Restoration skills. This is perfect for summoning allies and healing.
Other races and their strengths in Oblivion Remastered
- Altmer (High Elves): With a hefty +100 Magicka bonus, Altmer excel in spellcasting and have high Intelligence. However, their weakness to magic (20% vulnerability) and low Strength and Speed make them vulnerable in melee combat.
- Argonians are known for their ability to breathe in water, as well as their resistance to disease and poison. They are great for exploring, but have less Endurance and Personality, which affects stamina and NPC relationships.
- Bosmer (Wood Elves): Designed for stealth, Bosmer have strong Agility and enhanced Marksman and Alchemy abilities. They are ideal for ranged or potion-focused builds, but lack Strength for physical combat.
- Dunmer (Dark Elves): Dunmer are stronger than other elves, having 75% fire resistance and superior sword combat speed. Skills like as Destruction and Short Blade make them versatile warriors.
- Imperials: Native to Cyrodiil, Imperials receive a Personality boost that improves Speechcraft and Mercantile for better trading and persuasion. They are slower and less agile, making them more suitable for diplomatic roles.
- Khajiit: These feline warriors excel at stealth and hand-to-hand combat, with boosts for Acrobatics, Athletics, and Light Armor. Their weaker Strength and Endurance can make extended fights difficult.
- Nords: Skyrim’s brawny inhabitants have excellent Strength, 50% frost resistance, and solid Endurance. They excel in fighting with enhanced Blade and Blunt skills, but fall short in Intelligence and Personality.
- Orcs: Often overlooked, Orcs are melee powerhouses with 25% magic resistance, strong Endurance, and benefits in Armorer and Block. Their intelligence, speed, and personality are all low, limiting their adaptability.
- Redguards: Hammerfell’s Redguards are a close second to Bretons, with strong Strength, Endurance, and 75% poison and disease tolerance. Their improvements in Blade and Athletics make them tough combatants, but they lack Intelligence.
Oblivion Remastered is out on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. You can also play it on Xbox Game Pass. Some latest leaks involve Switch 2.
The leaks suggest that there is already a Switch 2 port in development for Oblivion Remastered. However, there is official confirmation of that.
