More gory & sword combat
Capcom Spotlight event has released more information on Onimusha Way of the Sword, which is scheduled to be released in 2026. This time, it would be gorier, with more sword fighting and EDO Japan’s historic-based setting.
Apart from this, the exact release date for the game is still a mystery. But they have informed the fans that they will release more information in the future.
A New Era, A New Hero
At the center of “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” is a new protagonist, eager to explore Kyoto’s mystical and historical setting. Producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei have highlighted three key aspects of the game:
- Compelling Characters: A “unique cast” greets players, promising to provide depth and excitement to the story.
- The game takes place in Kyoto during the Edo era, a time noted for its rich cultural history as well as its dark, enigmatic settings teeming with untold stories and the presence of the terrifying Genma.
- Intense Swordplay: Described as the “ultimate sword-fighting action,” the combat system includes gruesome dismemberment and gore. The classic Oni Gauntlet has returned, allowing players to gain power by harnessing the souls of slain adversaries.

The latest reveal of Onimusha Way of the Sword was really interesting. This was one of the most entertaining games that I used to play back in my childhood. The new part looks better with all the graphics enhancements and combat mechanics.
The game will focus more on collecting demon souls, sword fighting, story and unique characters which sounds cool. The game director also said that the game would be hard but not impossible to defeat. You can consider this game like a hack-and-slash sword fighting game.
Onimusha Way of the Sword will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2026. With more than a year until its release, Capcom has plenty of time to unveil more about this sequel, making the wait for the next installment in the Onimusha saga exciting and anticipatory.
