The upcoming Fable reboot from Playground Games is easily shaping up to be Xbox’s most ambitious RPG title to date. The new gameplay and in-depth details were revealed recently at the Xbox Developer’s Direct.
During the showcase, the fans saw the first gameplay, story details, open-world building, mechanics, combat, amazing visuals, and an Autumn 2026 release window.
According to the developers, players will be able to enter every single building in Albion, making it one of the best interactive open worlds created for the RPG game.
Fable open world: Living, breathing Albion
In an interview with IGN following the Developer Direct, Playground Games founder Ralph Fulton explained how Albion’s open world compares in scale of development with the studio’s previous work on the Horizon series.
The map is slightly smaller than a Horizon game; however, the density and interactivity exceed anything that the development team has ever built.
This world is crafted for exploration and full immersion for the action RPG genre. Ralph Futon confirmed that every building requires a full interior, because players can:
- Enter any home or structure
- Rob properties if they choose
- Purchase buildings and live in them
- Start families and settle down
This is the level of freedom the players will have in Albion; however, every choice they make will have an impact.
