Full focus on the upcoming console
Sony Interactive Entertainment is gearing up for the future, having revealed plans related to PlayStation 6.
PlayStation 5 is near its five-year mark and fans are always anticipating the next console.
During a recent investor briefing (credit to VGC), SIE President and CEO Hideaki Nishino underlined that console hardware, particularly the PS6, is a higher priority than cloud gaming.
Why PlayStation 6 still matters?
There has been a lot of concern among the fans that the consoles might fade after cloud streaming and subscription services, which are gaining more attention.
CEO Hideaki Nishino also acknowledged the growth of cloud gaming; however, he also listed the downsides: inconsistent network control and greater per-playtime prices than consoles.
He argues that most users prefer the consistency of local gameplay to network-dependent streaming. Sony’s success with a vast player ecosystem spanning PS4 and PS5 has sparked interest in the PS6 plan.
He didn’t reveal too much about the next console; however, he reassured that PS6 is the top focus of Sony right now.
He hinted that Sony is looking into “new and enhanced ways” for players to experience content and services, implying future innovation.

Cross-gens games
Lynn Azar, SIE’s Senior Vice President of Finance, reiterated Nishino’s remarks, emphasizing that Sony is still crafting the platform’s future.
The corporation has decreased “traditional cyclicality” by creating a strong multi-generational environment, with the PS4 and PS5 delivering consistent income.
Azar stated that the PlayStation 6 will continue this approach by providing new methods for players to access and interact with games across generations.
Thoughts
I am quite happy that Sony is still focusing on the PS6 console rather than shifting totally to cloud gaming and subscription-based services.
Nothing can beat the excitement and joy of having a physical disc of a game and a proper gaming console.
I just hope that Sony will focus more on single-player titles instead of focusing on Live-Service games.
