PlayStation Store purge: Sony removes nearly 700 low-quality games

It appears that Sony has recently removed nearly 700 low-quality titles from the PlayStation Store. There is no doubt that Sony isn’t playing with maintaining the standards of the digital storefront.
The shift is a larger attempt to solve what many gamers describe as shovelware and low-effort releases, which are often related to generative AI content.
Most games removed from PlayStation store are AI-generated
According to the latest reports, most of the removed games come from Nostra Games, nearly 90 titles.
Include regional variants of these games and the total number of delisted entries shoots up. The other publisher that was affected to a lesser extent was CGI Lab.
A representative from Nostra Games also shared on Discord that their company was not given a proper explanation for the removal of their games from the store.
Despite this, they are determined to continue releasing games on other platforms such as Xbox, Nintendo, PC and more.
Sony has not confirmed the exact reason behind the removal of the games. But one sharp look and you can see most of them were AI-slop and AI-generated games.
There is no doubt that decisions were taken over low production quality, repetitive gameplay, and the increasing use of AI-generated assets without meaningful design improvements.

Conclusion
This is not the first time we have seen Sony do something like this. Just last month, they removed nearly 1200 titles from the PlayStation Store for similar reasons as well.
This purge heavily impacted the small developers, including ThiGames, whose entire gamelog was removed from the store.
Sony’s action has become stricter as it appears that they won’t bend their knees to the low-quality or AI-slop titles floating on the PlayStation Store.
