Both projects have been cancelled
Some new reports are coming from the first-party Sony PlayStation studio, Firesprite, which once worked on multiple ambitious titles that were ultimately cancelled.
Among them was a VR experience based on a hit and popular TV show, Breaking Bad. Another one was an original sci-fi horror game. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Is there a Breaking Bad VR game in development?
Yes! It was, however, it got cancelled. According to the reports, Firesprite was developing this project between 2017 and 2018.
Rather than a full-fledged game, this project was designed to be a narrative-driven experience, pretty similar to the early PlayStation VR titles.
Players could have explored the iconic locations from the series, which include Walter White’s home and the New Mexico desert.
Players could have immersed themselves in the world of the show to experience cinematic storytelling rather than traditional gameplay.
Interestingly, in 2017, Vince Gilligan already revealed a relationship with Sony on a virtual reality project. But the studio, of which it is now known to be a part, was unknown. The project was scrapped in less than a year despite the huge development work done on it.

Sci-fi horror game also got cancelled
After the cancellation of the VR project, this studio started to work on a new sci-fi horror IP between 2019 and 2020.
However, this project never progressed beyond the prototype stage. The concept art of a former developer suggests that the game had a lot of body horror and sci-fi environments, like Dead Space.
Although there were certain similarities with the previous name of Firesprite, the persistence was acknowledged, and the project was also being called a completely original IP.
What’s next for Firesprite?
For now, the studio is still active and reportedly working on several new titles. One of the games is “Project Hearthbreak,” which is rumored to be a narrative-driven horror game that could be linked to the Until Dawn universe.
There is also another project, codenamed “Project Pillar,” which has resurfaced through a job listing. Both of these titles are said to be developed using modern technology with Unreal Engine 5.
