Bandwidth issues were the major problem
There are many fans and gamers who still hope that Rockstar Games might give them Bully 2 in the future. In a recent interview with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey at L.A. Comic Con, Rockstar’s former co-founder Dan Houser revealed that the game nearly happened.
However, the project fell victim to many problems that Rockstar was facing in that situation. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Dan Houser’s take on Bully 2’s cancellation
During a chat with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey at L.A. Comic Con (clipped by LegacyKillaHD), Houser blamed “bandwidth issues” as the major reason behind the cancellation.
This is what he explained in the interview:
“If you got a small lead creative and a small senior leadership crew, you just can’t do all the projects you want,”
This take can be considered as valid as Rockstar Games were working on important projects like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto.
Houser, who co-founded Rockstar alongside his brother Sam, left in 2020 to start Absurd Ventures. The new firm focuses on animation, games, and other forms of media.
Meanwhile, Rockstar is focusing on Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to release on May 26, 2026. With GTA 6 requiring all hands on deck, it’s no wonder Bully 2 was sidelined.
Final Thoughts
The Bully game is approaching its 20th anniversary in 2026 and some rumors involve a remake or remaster for this game.
Rockstar has a history of recreating classic games, such as the current Max Payne remakes in collaboration with Remedy. There is a pretty good chance that we might see this game getting a similar treatment.
However, it’s unlikely that Rockstar Games will work on Bully 2. There is already a Grand Theft Auto franchise and fans are also wishing that the company could make Red Dead Redemption as well. There is also a chance that they might go for a new IP in the future. In the midst of this, the sequel to Bully seems very unlikely.
