Next-Gen Xbox may be a gaming PC-Console hybrid: Rumors

Different from the traditional console
Recently, there have been many rumors and leaks about the next Xbox and how it can be very different from the traditional console. The rumors started with the upcoming Call of Duty 2026, which is targeting this mystery hardware.
Jez Corden on Xbox Two podcast revealed that the next console might release in 2027 instead of 2026. Let’s check out more details in this article.
New direction for Microsoft next Xbox
There is no doubt that Xbox has been on a tough ride recently with PS5 and Sony not only dominating in the console department, but also in gaming titles as well.
Microsoft’s recent “everything is an Xbox” ad expanded gaming beyond consoles, suggesting a shift. A former Xbox executive even suggested that they would eliminate hardware if they could.
Jez Corden, Windows Central vet, revealed some leaks saying that the new Xbox won’t be like an old school gaming console. Consider a Windows PC in a TV-friendly shell, with fixed specs that developers can optimize like a console, but with PC freedom.
According to him, he thinks the next console might be like micro-form PC that slots under your TV. This will blend the console vibes with Windows power.
In contrast to the wild west of PC builds, developers would target a specific hardware profile—for example, a specific GPU and CPU—to ensure buttery-smooth optimization.

It would handle a wide range of peripherals (controllers, keyboards, you name it) and could even switch between a slick gaming UI and a full Windows desktop.
He also talked about the latest Call of Duty 2026 rumors and hinted that this game might launch in 2026 but for Xbox Series X/S. Later it might get a hybrid release for the next Xbox in 2027.
