The new God of War is here!
Sony and Santa Monica Studio have officially expanded the GOW universe with the announcement of God Of War Laufey, which is a brand-new PS5 game that will explore the story of the most mysterious character, Laufey, better known as Faye.
Revealed at the PlayStation State of Play, this is the first major God of War spinoff game that will be centred around Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. Santa Monica straight-up dropped the uninterrupted 20-minute gameplay of the game.

This is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio, exclusive to PS5. Unlike Kratos and Atreus, this game will be focused on Kratos’ wife, Faye.
She is a legendary giant warrior whose story always remained pretty mysterious in the reboot God of War games.
The new gameplay reveal trailer showcased Faye awakening in a mysterious realm after her death. She is separated from her family and embarks on a dangerous journey to find out where she is and to return to Kratos and Atreus.
The new gameplay showcased the new realm exploration, classic puzzle-solving, improved and better combat with combos and several unusual but interesting companions, which include a talking sword and a mysterious cube.

Gameplay features revealed so far
In the new 20-minute gameplay, God Of War Laufey showcased several mechanics that are very familiar, along with some new ideas:
- Fast-paced melee combat
- Exploration-focused environments
- Puzzle-solving elements
- Companion-based interactions
- New weapons and magical abilities
- Large-scale boss encounters
Faye’s combat style appears to be faster-paced, agile and versatile compared to Kratos.
Who is Faye?
Faye, also known as Laufey the Just, is a giant warrior and one of the most important and mysterious characters in the God of War universe.
She was Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother and her death starts the reboot God of War 2018 story and the Norse Saga.
Players only know that she played a very crucial role in protecting the Giants and hiding Jotunheim from Odin.
In God of War Ragnarök, we learned that she was a very strong warrior and she fought Thor to a standstill. This character is portrayed by actress Deborah Ann Woll.
