Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Xbox recently showcased the upcoming action RPG game, Stranger Than Heaven, which is now officially set to release in Winter 2026. This game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and will launch on Game Pass on day one.

50 years journey across Japan

The game will follow the story of Makoto Daito, portrayed by Yu Shirota. He is a half-American and half-Japanese young man who leaves San Francisco in 1915 to escape the hardship and travel to Japan, the homeland of his mother.

During his journey, he encounters the smuggler Orpheus, who is portrayed by Snoop Dogg, along with Dean Fujioka’s character Yu Shinjo.

Makoto grows into a strong enforcer under Orpheus, while Yu becomes a more strategic and ambitious figure who wants to reshape Japan’s future.

The saga goes back decades and sees fights between the Yakuza, the Italian Mafia and even the Japanese government.

One of the biggest and main highlights of Stranger Than Heaven is the large-scale setting. Players will be able to travel across five major Japanese locations throughout the game.

The journey begins in Kokura, Fukuoka, which will feature nightlife, workers’ district, mini-games & wrestling. Other locations also include:

  • Kure, Hiroshima – focused on shipbuilding and waterways
  • Minami, Osaka – packed with foreign culture, betting, and shooting mini-games
  • Atami, Shizuoka – a more modern and refined city
