Epic Games has also laid off 1000 employees
Epic Games has officially confirmed that several modes (Ballistic, Rocket Racing, etc) in Fortnite are going to be discontinued from next month. This is due to the decline in the players for these modes.
The affected modes are: Rocket Racing, Festival Battle stage & Ballistic. Let’s check out more details about the closure of these modes in this article.
When will these modes go offline?
These modes will be discontinued in the game starting from April 16, 2026. Only, Rocket Racing will be discontinued in October 2026.
This announcement was shared via Fortnite’s official status channels, where the developers have acknowledged that these modes didn’t have the huge player attraction or engagement.
Although they were great when they were launched, these modes struggled to attract and retain a consistent player base.
Rocket Racing, which debuted alongside LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival back in 2023, managed to stay longer compared to the other modes.
However, the recent data has shown that this mode is averaging fewer than 1000 active players in recent weeks.
Similarly, the Festival Battle stage, which was introduced during a music-themed season featuring Metallica, has also failed to maintain the player base.
On the other hand, the latest first-person shooter experience, Ballistic, initially drew and attracted a player base, but it also didn’t perform quite well up to Epic Games’ expectations.
Conclusion
Although these shutdowns have occurred, Epic Games has underlined the fact that the Fortnite Festival would go on.
The Battle Stage mode is going to be removed, but the Main Stage and Jam Stage, including the already existing Jam Tracks, will be fully playable.
The recent decisions made by the company, whether it is shutting down the modes, layoff of employees and adjustment in pricing & V-Bucks, all these suggest the company is focusing and prioritizing more towards player engagement.
