Rockstar Games recently dropped the bomb news on May 2, 2025, that GTA 6 is going to get delayed and will now release on May 26, 2025.

With this, we saw the whole gaming community and fans reacting quite strongly towards the delayed update of the game.

There were doubts, some praised that Rockstar was delayed in delivering a finished product instead of rushing, while there were many memes involved as well.

One of those things was posted by the Guinness World Records official X account regarding the delay of GTA VI.

Longest development time for a video game

After the latest announcement by Rockstar Games, Guinness World Records posted the information about the longest development period for a video game.

It’s not GTA 6, it’s ‘Duke Nukem Forever’, which was in development for 14 years and 43 days by 3D Realms. It was officially announced on 28 April 1997 and was released on June 10, 2011.

Just to let you know that this game was considered to be a flop. But don’t worry, Rockstar ain’t 3D Realms. This is not the first time they have delayed the game.

The last time was during Red Dead Redemption 2, when they delayed the game 2 times. It was finally released on October 26, 2018 and it is considered to be one of the best games that has ever been made.

There are pretty good chances that we might see another delay and the GTA 6 release date might be pushed back to October to December 2026.

From the reports and Rockstar statements, GTA 6 has been in full development since late 2018. Although it sucks, fans will patiently wait till May 26, 2026.

Everyone knows that Rockstar is going to cook a 5-star dish and the game is going to revolutionize the whole gaming industry.
