Why may Sony have walked away from the Physint project?

According to Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of the Japanese games industry consultancy firm Kantan Games, Sony may have made this decision after seeing how Death Stranding 2 sold compared to the original title.

Death Stranding 2 received very strong reviews from critics; however, reportedly, it did not receive huge commercial success.

According to Alinea Analytics, the title may have sold only 2.5 million copies, even after multiple discounts.

If you compare it with the original title, which sold 5 million copies by March 2021 and surpassed 20 million players by March 2025.

According to the latest Bloomberg report, Kojima Productions also seemed to have gone over budget after missing some deadlines. Sony also doesn’t want to invest so much in a game that will not remain a Sony console exclusive.

Conclusion

Physint is expected to be a huge action-cinematic game with a blockbuster cast and it will easily cross the estimated $200 million that was spent on Death Stranding 2.

Luckily, XBOX has arrived as a saving grace, as they have now partnered with Hideo Kojima once again for his upcoming action-espionage game.

Why did Sony reportedly drop Physint?
