The legal battle starts between Sony and Tencent
Exciting news has been out in the gaming world. Sony is now taking legal action against Tencent for their upcoming game, Light of Motiram.
If you watch the trailer, gameplay, game setting and everything, you will realize that this is an exact copy of Sony’s Horizon series.
Why is Sony suing Tencent?
Sony Interactive filed a complaint in a California federal court, saying that Light of Motiram is a “slavish clone” of Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequels.
Light of Motiram, which was revealed late last year, received an immediate response on social media due to similarities in gameplay, story, and art.
Sony rejected Tencent’s collaborative proposal, resulting in this court struggle. They are demanding secret damages and an injunction against Tencent’s intellectual property breaches.

Horizon franchise’s impressive sales
At the same time, the lawsuit revealed that the Horizon franchise has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, up from 32 million in 2023.
This includes: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, DLCs like The Frozen Wilds and Burning Shores, Horizon Forbidden West, the PSVR 2 title Horizon Call of the Mountain, and LEGO Horizon Adventures.
There is no doubt that after seeing this number, you can easily say that this franchise is very successful.
Conclusion
Things are now going to be interesting between Sony and Tencent. Sony is trying to protect its IP and raise objections against the alleged copying.
Fans’ opinions are pretty divided on this. Everyone agrees that Tencent has copied most of the things, but they also believe that Tencent is providing every feature that the Horizon series should have in the first place.
