A first-person-based souls-like
One More Level, developers of Ghostrunners, are back with an amazing souls-like, Valor Mortis, which was officially revealed at Gamescom opening night live 2025.
As gamers, we all know the gaming market is flooding with Souls-like games and people have started to become bored with this genre. However, this new souls-like did something new, which actually seems interesting.
Valor Mortis: Unique souls-like experience
Now, this article is based on the hands-on preview report from Insider Gaming. They got the chance to test this game out at the Gamescom event.
This game is very much like a Souls game. You have checkpoints via Lanterns, respawning enemies, and resource loss on death.
However, you are going to experience everything in first-person perspective, instead of third-person. One More Level has also included some features from Ghostrunner as well like a dynamic dash and some parkour elements.
You will play as a reanimated 19th-century Napoleon soldier. The whole world is now covered with a plague that has corrupted everyone.

Combat and design
As a souls-like game, you have to parry, attack and dodge, all in the first-person action. In the demo gameplay, the fans at the Gamescom had a sword in their right hand and interchangeable gadgets in their left.
For example, a pistol that spits fire, which targets enemy weak points and a fire ability for devastating area damage.
I think, in the game, we will be able to find more gadgets and weapons with these types of abilities and skills as well. There will also be finishers for the different weapons.
The environment and setting of the game look pretty Souls-like and dark. The first-person perspective is just the icing on the cake.
Thoughts
As a Souls-like game, this looks pretty interesting because of the first-person mode. Souls fans will definitely want to try a Souls game in the first-person scenario.
I think this is a good, unique twist to give to a Souls game, without making them look and play all the same. What do you guys think? Are you excited to play Valor Mortis? Let us know in the comments section.
