Xbox gaming strategy is now changing!

Microsoft’s gaming division, Xbox, is currently undergoing one of the biggest restructurings in its history. The new CEO, Asha Sharma, has recently shared more details about the restructuring.

In a recent interview with Fortune, Asha claimed that Xbox’s aggressive expansion strategy under the previous leadership stretched the company too thin. Because of this, it became difficult to focus on the core business.

Xbox brand grew too quickly

Asha Sharma said that Xbox has been aggressively expanding for years, making acquisitions in its first-party division.

She said the plan was supposed to accelerate growth and expand Xbox’s game roster, but ultimately it took the focus away from the company’s core goals.

The company has made several ambitious bets for rapid expansion, but it failed to maintain the core gaming business.

Rather than getting any positive results, many of the investments added more complexity and long-term management challenges.

A more focused XBOX

With the latest restructuring, this is a new shift in Xbox’s strategy. Instead of growing rapidly through acquisitions, the company wants to focus on fewer first-party studios.

The company also wants to invest more in its biggest franchises and established intellectual properties.

According to Asha Sharma, the future success of the company will now depend on allocating resources more efficiently, instead of focusing and spreading the development teams across multiple projects.

Conclusion

The recent Xbox restructuring has resulted in more than 1,000 layoffs and the removal of four studios from Xbox’s first-party lineup.

No official announced game is cancelled and some of the studios might recieve fund to continue their ongoing projects.

Why did Asha Sharma criticize Xbox’s previous strategy?

Asha Sharma said Xbox expanded too aggressively by acquiring too many studios, which spread company resources too thin and reduced focus on its core business.

Did Asha Sharma directly blame Phil Spencer?

In discussing Xbox’s past strategy, Sharma attributed the rapid expansion and acquisition approach to the previous leadership under Phil Spencer, saying those decisions contributed to the company’s current restructuring.

What is Xbox focusing on now?

The company plans to invest more heavily in its core franchises, streamline studio operations, and release games more consistently rather than expanding through additional acquisitions.
