How Xbox Disc-to-Digital feature works?
It is pretty easy to use this feature on your console. Just insert an eligible Xbox game disc into a compatible console equipped with a disc drive.
Once it is verified, the game is linked to the user’s Microsoft account. This will grant a digital entitlement that will be accessed on supported Xbox platforms.
The Xbox Play Anywhere title also includes a digital copy for Xbox Play Anywhere compatible Windows PCs and Xbox handheld devices, meaning they can play the game without having to use the Xbox disk each time.
For those who have extensive game collections, the feature is a much more convenient way to play from a library of games through multiple devices, and it won’t require disc swapping.
Important limitations to note
Microsoft has also introduced several limitations to prevent abuse. If players sell, lose or give away the physical disc, they will lose the digital license.
Also, original Xbox and Xbox 360 game discs are supported in this program. Not every physical game is eligible. There is already a list of games that are available and more will be added in the future.
