Microsoft has now officially rolled out AMD FSR 4 Support for Xbox Series X/S and ROG Xbox Ally. This is through the latest version of the Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK).
The update doesn’t impact gameplay for gamers, but it enables this new AI-based upscaling technology by AMD, which will benefit developers with future game patches and lead to better image quality and performance for players.

FSR 4 Support for Xbox Series X/S & ROG Xbox Ally
The latest Xbox GDK now includes tools and sample implementations that allow developers to integrate the new FSR 4 support into their games across Xbox consoles and supported handheld devices.
Microsoft has collaborated with AMD to optimize this technology for RDNA 2-based GPUs. This ensures that Series X/S and the Asus ROG Xbox Ally lineup can handle the machine learning-powered image upscaling.
Developers can now choose between FSR 4 Full and FSR 4 Lite INT8 models. This depends on their target performance and image quality.
Better performance for future games
Players will not notice any immediate changes until the studio releases the new updates that implement this new upscaling technology.
Microsoft also provided performance figures of the FSR 4 processing cost on Xbox Series X for the INT8 Lite and 4K outputs, which are around 1.29 and 2.75 milliseconds of GPU time, respectively.
These options enable developers to adjust for high resolution and lower frames per second as needed for each game.
AMD has also revealed that future technologies, including Xbox Project Helix and the next generation of FSR will continue to push gaming console performance forward.
