The 2024 PGA Tour season promises to deliver an unprecedented blend of tradition.

The PGA Tour has officially unveiled its highly anticipated schedule for the 2024 PGA Tour season. This year’s schedule is set to bring a wave of changes, marking a significant shift as it embraces a calendar format for the first time since 2012.

The 2024 PGA Tour schedule boasts a total of 36 events, including the prestigious four major championships. A focal point of the upcoming season will be the Players Championship, positioned alongside eight signature events, formerly known as designated events. Notably, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will step into the spotlight, replacing the Phoenix Open as a signature event for the 2024 season.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said while revealing 2024’s tournament calendar (via Yahoo Sports):

“We are excited about the roll-out of the PGA Tour’s reimagined schedule and what the season will offer to our fans: a January start with stars competing head-to-head more often, alongside the weekly drama of life-altering moments and the emergence of new stars.”

No-cut signature events and major changes

In a bold move, five signature events—the Sentry, Pebble, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, and Travelers Championship—will break from tradition by eliminating cuts and featuring a limited field size. This change promises an exciting dynamic as players face the challenge of navigating the courses without the safety net of cuts.

Conversely, the remaining three signature events—the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and Memorial Tournament—will maintain the 36-hole cut tradition, along with the Players Championship and the revered majors. Alongside these adjustments, fans can also anticipate an increase in prize purses for the signature events, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

The schedule’s structure will see most signature events arranged back-to-back, with two or three regular events preceding them. Despite these shifts, the FedEx Cup structure will remain unchanged, ensuring a thrilling conclusion to the season. The playoffs will see 70 players making the initial cut, followed by 50 advancing to the BMW Championship, and a final 30 players contending for glory at the Tour Championship.
