Akshay Bhatia turned pro in 2019 at the age of 17.

Akshay Bhatia, the 22-year-old American golf prodigy, has seen his net worth skyrocket to an estimated $2 million in 2024. This remarkable achievement is a testament to his exceptional talent, dedication, and the success he has found on the professional golf circuit.

Bhatia, who was born in Northridge, California, and now resides in Wake Forest, North Carolina, first gained attention as a decorated amateur golfer.

He represented the United States in prestigious events like the Junior Presidents Cup, Junior Ryder Cup, and the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, where he won two silver medals. Bhatia’s impressive amateur career paved the way for his professional debut in 2019 when he received a sponsor exemption to play in the Valspar Championship at just 17 years old.

Since turning professional, Bhatia has continued to impress, earning his first PGA Tour victory at the 2024 Valero Texas Open, where he pocketed a staggering $1.6 million. This win, coupled with his other strong performances throughout the year, has contributed significantly to his impressive net worth of $2 million. In fact, Bhatia’s total career earnings are estimated to be $5.5 million as of May 2024.

Akshay Bhatia’s past wins

Bhatia’s journey to the top began when he turned pro in 2019 at the age of 17. He made his professional debut at the Sanderson Farms Championship that fall. Since then, he has represented the United States in several international competitions, including the Junior Presidents Cup, Junior Ryder Cup, and Walker Cup. His impressive amateur career also includes a silver medal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.

The Valero Texas Open, held just before the Augusta Masters, saw intense competition with several big names vying for the top spot. However, Bhatia maintained his lead throughout the tournament, stretching it to six shots over Denny McCarthy after the outward nine.

McCarthy’s late charge, reeling off eight birdies, including on each of the seven final holes, threatened Bhatia’s wire-to-wire win hopes. The two players were level after the 17th hole, setting the stage for a thrilling playoff.

In the playoff, both players had birdie putts of around 12 feet on the par-5 18th. McCarthy birdied, leaving Bhatia to do the same to force a playoff. As Bhatia’s putt snaked in, he fist-pumped exuberantly, but felt his left shoulder pop out of the socket and back in. Despite the discomfort, Bhatia secured his second PGA Tour title by birdieing the first playoff hole.

Bhatia’s unconventional route to the PGA Tour has been marked by perseverance and hard work. He turned pro at 17, skipping college to pursue his dream of becoming a professional golfer. His first breakthrough came on the Korn Ferry Tour in January 2022, and he earned a temporary PGA Tour card through a second-place finish in the Puerto Rico Open and a win at the Barracuda Championship.

Bhatia’s statistics and success are impressive. He finished No. 1 for Greens in Regulation and in Strokes Gained: Approach. He was sixth for SG: Off the Tee and second for SG: Around the Green. His rubber band elasticity allows him to generate a swing speed of around 125 miles per hour.

The win at the Valero Texas Open has earned Bhatia in excess of $1.6 million and 500 FedEx points. He also qualifies for the US Open with his second PGA Tour victory, moving him to No. 34 in the world rankings. This victory marks a significant milestone in his career, and he is now poised to make a strong impact at the Augusta Masters.

Bhatia’s parents, Sonny and Renu, have been instrumental in his golfing journey. They moved from Delhi, India, to the US and settled in Pinehurst, North Carolina, for better golfing facilities.

Additionally, he has partnered with golf apparel brand, Puma Golf, to promote their latest collections. His growing popularity has also led to collaborations with major brands such as TaylorMade Golf and Titleist.
