Five rookie sensations to watch out for 2025 Golf Majors

The golf world is eagerly anticipating the 2025 major season, with five rookies set to be the focus of high expectations. Based on their past performances, they are ready to challenge and leave a lasting impact on the game. Here is the list of the top 5 rookie sensations you need to know about.

Neal Shipley

Neal Shipley, 23, is poised to make waves in 2025 after becoming just the sixth player to win low amateur at both the Masters and US Open in 2024. The Stanford graduate earned his PGA Tour card for the rest of 2024 and 2025 after finishing No. #1 in the PGA Tour University Ranking. Shipley’s coach Conrad Ray describes him as a “generational talent” off the tee who thrives under pressure.

Luke Clanton

Luke Clanton, a Florida State alum, battled Neal Shipley down to the wire at the 2024 US Open before Shipley captured low amateur honors. Clanton qualified for the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst, where he played in a group with fellow UVA products Denny McCarthy and Ben Kohles.

Ben James

Ben James, who finished his junior career as the AJGA and Golfweek No. #1, qualified for the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst in his first major appearance. The Milford, Connecticut native missed the cut by just one shot.

Michael Thorbjornsen

Michael Thorbjornsen, 22, earned his PGA Tour card for the rest of 2024 and 2025 after holding off Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht to finish No. #1 in the PGA Tour University Ranking. The Stanford alum and past Drive, Chip & Putt winner at Augusta National competed on Sunday at the 2022 Travelers Championship, finishing fourth as an amateur.

Miles Russell

Miles Russell, 15, will make his PGA Tour debut at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, becoming the youngest player in the field. The 2023 Junior PGA and Junior PLAYERS champion was the youngest ever to be named AJGA Player of the Year, a feat matched only by Tiger Woods. Russell made the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this season at the LECOM Suncoast Classic before finishing T20.
