Indian golfers finish tied 6th at the Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open
India clinched the third spot among 11 countries after the conclusion of the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open here on Thursday, with Ceerat Kang and Guntas Kaur Sandhu, part of the two-member Indian team sent by the Indian Golf Union (IGU), ending their campaign in tied sixth position.
A total of 54 golfers from 11 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, South Korea, Philippines and Singapore, were competing in the event.
Chandigarh’s Guntas Kaur Sandhu carded a three-over 75 to finish in joint sixth place alongside compatriot Ceerat, who submitted a five-over 77.
The duo ended their Malaysia outing at six-over 222. Foong Zi Yu of Malaysia snatched the title from countrymate Amberly Zaira Binti Zamra on countback after the pair finished at one-under 215 after 54 holes.
The 15-year-old Guntas started her third and final round with a birdie on the first hole but dropped a bogey after six straight pars. On the back nine, she sank a birdie against two bogeys and a double bogey to settle for her eventual result.
Ceerat, 19, on the other hand, had a disappointing start, dropping a double bogey on the first hole. The Panchkula girl birdied the very next hole to make amends but lost her way in the middle, losing strokes on the seventh and ninth holes to end her front nine at 38.
On the back nine, she posted a bogey and a double bogey to finish the event tied for sixth.
