Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 Updated Schedule: Day 2
The first game of the day will see New Zealand take on Chile in Rourkela.
India is playing host to the 15th edition of the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup, the schedule of which runs from January 13 to January 29. This is the second consecutive Hockey World Cup being hosted by the subcontinental giants.
Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda international in Rourkela in the state of Odisha have been chosen as the host venues of the 16-team quadrennial event.
Day 1 of the tournament was action packed to say the least. It started with Argentina edging edging South Africa 1-0. That was before one of the tournament's heavyweights Australia mauled France 8-0 to underline their status. Tom Craig scored three field goals while Jeremy Hayward scored all off the penalty corners. Flynn Ogilvie and Tom Wickham chipped in with a goal each.
England hammered France 5-0 to get their campaign off to a positive start. It was an important win for the English as they are in Group D alongside hosts India and could be in race for second spot in the group. The hosts themselves started with a comfortable win. They sealed a 2-0 success over Spain with a goal each from Amit Rohidas and Hardik in each of the first two quarters.
Day 2 promises to be similarly full of goals as the teams in Groups B and C fight it out to get the first points on the board. The actions begins with New Zealand taking on Chile, followed by the Netherlands' clash with Malaysia. The next two matches will see Belgium take on Korea before Germany meet Japan. With results on Day 1 pretty much following the script, the tournament still awaits its first upset. Could it come on Day 2? We'll soon find out.
