Report: Hockey India begins search for new head coach, Scientific Advisor after Graham Reid's exit
Former Indian coach resigned from his post last Sunday.
The FIH Men's Hockey World Cup for the Indian team was not how they would have wanted it to be. The men in blues were the favorites for a podium finish on their home soil. However, they underperformed as they were ranked joint 9th in the tournament.
It was certain that changes would be made after such a poor tournament. The first change we saw was on Monday when the chief coach Graham Reid met with Hockey India President and submitted his resignation letter. Along with the head coach the analytical coach Greeg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell Pemberton also submitted the letters.
Hockey India have made an advertisement inviting applications for the post of head coach, scientific advisor, and analytical coach. The application is accepted immediately and the last date for application is 15th February.
Hockey India's urgency behind the advertisement is very clear as in 6 months the Asian Games are scheduled to be held. Moreover, the Asian Games are going to be the qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics as well. So, keeping in mind these marquee events it was obvious that the board will look to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.
Graham Reid's after resignation
Graham Reid on Sunday informed the team about his decision. On the next day, he met Hockey India President to submit his resignation.
After his resignation, Reid said," It has been an honour and privilege to work with the team and Hockey India and I have enjoyed every moment of this epic journey. I wish the team all the very best."
In a media release, he stated," It is now time for me to step aside and hand over the reins to the next management."
Although it was an underwhelming performance in the world. Overall Graham Reid's tenure with the Indian Men's Hockey Team was a successful one. As the team won the bronze in the Tokyo Olympics.
