The 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup is around the corner with the top 16 teams set to compete for the coveted title. World’s top players are set to participate and they will look to carry forward their 2022 form into the World Cup. In this article let us discuss the top 10 highest goalscorers in men's hockey in 2022.

Timothee Clement - 15 goals

Timothee Clement the 22-year-old is a regular for the French national team after making his debut aged 18. He took part in the 2018 men’s World Cup held in India where France finished eighth and was also an important member in the 2021 men’s junior World Cup where France finished third. Timothee has represented 41 times scoring 14 goals and operating primarily in the attacking midfield position. 

Alexander Hendrickx - 15 goals

Hendrickx the 29-year-old Belgian has represented 139 times scoring 50 goals. He was at the top of the list of goalscorers in Men's Hockey at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, scoring 14 goals and leading Belgium to a gold medal finish. He was part of the team which won the 2018 World and this time too they are one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

Nathan Ephraums - 17 goals

The 23-year-old Australian will be taking part in his first World Cup after having made his debut with the senior team in 2019. He along with Tom Craig will form a combo in the forward position and are the firm favourites to lift the title as well. Ephraums played well in the recently concluded test series against India in Adelaide, Australia.

Victor Charlet - 19 goals

Charlet will be leading France for the second consecutive time in the men’s World Cup 2023. The French team finished eighth in the last edition and will look to better their performance in the upcoming edition. Charlet has represented France on 116 occasions scoring 55 goals and is a core member of the defensive setup. France did not have a good time at the recently concluded men’s Nations Cup but Charlet performed reasonably well.

Razie Rahim - 19 goals

Razie Rahim, the 35-year-old from Malaysia, is one of the senior-most members on the side with more than 250 caps. He made his debut way back in 2006 playing in Azlan Sultan Shah Cup in front of his home crowd. Malaysia has been progressing well at the Asian level. They will look to put up a fight against the world’s top teams as well.

Jeremy Hayward - 19 goals

Jeremy Hayward the 29-year-old will be playing in his third World Cup after having lifted the trophy in his first attempt in 2014. The defender has represented Australia on 162 occasions scoring 70 goals. He was also part of the Australian team which stood second at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Most importantly, he played against his brother Leon Hayward who represents New Zealand. 

Nick Bandurak - 22 goals

Nick Bandurak the 30-year-old from England was at the top of the list of goalscorers for England in men's hockey in 2022 with 22 goals. He is part of the national team for many years having made his debut in the early 2010s. He will be a vital cog in the World Cup playing in the forward position. England has finished fourth in three previous editions and will like to break the unwanted streak and claim a spot on the podium.

Gareth Furlong - 22 goals

The Welsh international is one of the senior-most members in the Wales squad with close to 150 caps and 100 goals. The defender made his debut in 2010 and since has been part of the upward curve. Wales was ranked 36th in 2016 but has progressed at a good pace reaching the top 15 in the men’s rankings. This is Wales's maiden appearance at the Men’s World Cup.

Blake Glovers - 25 goals

The Australian number 13 has scored the most goals for Australia in 2022 and primarily plays in the forward position. Grovers will be playing his second World Cup after finishing third in the last edition. Grovers has played club hockey in several countries like England and Netherlands.

Harmanpreet Singh - 39 goals

The 26-year-old drag flicker is captaining the Indian side at the 2023 Men’s World Cup. He scored a record number of 39 goals in 2022 to be the highest scorer in men's hockey and will look to continue the same in 2023 as well. Harmanpreet Singh is by far India’s No. 1 penalty corner specialist and recently has tweaked his playing style which was evident in the Australian test series. Usually, the defender relies more on power but has improved his placement skills as well.
