List of Men's Hockey World Cup champions by continent
Countries from only three continental federations have won the quadrennial mega event.
Asia and Europe have been the powerhouse in the hockey fraternity with both continents playing a larger number of teams in the World Cup. To be more specific, 12 out of the 15 editions of the Men’s Hockey World Cup had winners from these two continents, showing full dominance. In recent times, other continents too have started to perform well with the likes of Africa and South America taking centre stage.
South Africa specifically has shown tremendous progress and was recently crowned the champions of the FIH Men’s Nations League, defeating Ireland in the finals. The title run shall now enable them to take part in the FIH Men's Pro League 2023-24. Only the top eight countries along with a qualifier from the Nations League take part in the Men's Pro League.
The FIH Nations League consisted of stronger teams like France, and Malaysia but South Africa put up a great show. Wales from Europe in the past five years has been a good improving side and has jumped 20 places ahead to the 15th spot in the men's rankings. Wales has two players with good experience playing in the Pro League for Great Britain which can come in handy for the team.
Chile along with Wales will be debuting at the Men’s Hockey World Cup in India and also will be the second nation from South America along with Argentina to take part.
