Hockey: India vs Australia Head-to-head record

India’s hockey team has long been a powerhouse in the sport, boasting an unparalleled Olympic record with eight gold medals. Their dominance was particularly evident from 1928 to 1956, when they secured six consecutive gold medals and maintained an impressive 30-game winning streak.
The team’s success extends beyond the Olympics, with victories in the World Cup (1975), Asian Games (four times), Asia Cup (three times), and Asian Champions Trophy (four times). In total, India has claimed 29 official international titles, cementing their status as a hockey superpower.
India’s rivalry with the Australia in field hockey has been prominent with the two nations have faced each other in various competitions over the years. Rivalry is largely dominated by the Australia.
In the last meeting between both sides Indian men’s hockey team secured a historic 3-2 victory over Australia in their Pool B match at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This triumph marks India’s first win against the Kookaburras in Olympic competition since Munich 1972, ending a 52-year drought.
The match, held at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium, saw India take an early lead with two quick-fire goals in the first quarter. Abhishek opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by a strike from captain Harmanpreet Singh just a minute later. Australia’s Thomas Craig narrowed the gap with a penalty corner conversion in the 25th minute, bringing the score to 2-1 at halftime.
India extended their lead in the third quarter when Harmanpreet Singh netted his second goal of the match in the 32nd minute. The Australians fought back, with Blake Govers scoring from a penalty in the 55th minute, setting up a tense finish. However, the Indian defense held firm to secure the 3-2 victory.
