This is the final international match for both teams ahead of the Hangzhou Asian Games

India men’s hockey team thrashed reigning Asian Games champions Japan (5-0) to progress to the final of Asian Champions Trophy 2023. Akashdeep led the attack scoring the opening goal and overall, India had five different goal scorers in the semi-finals of which four of them scored field goals – Karthi Selvam, Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Sumit.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh opened his account and scored his eighth goal of the tournament and continues to lead the goal scoring chart. Earlier in the day, Malaysia defeated defending champions South Korea (6-2) to reach the final.

India and Malaysia clashed against each other once in the group stage with the former registering a comfortable victory (5-0). However the match in the final isn’t going to be a easy one for the Indians. Sreejesh in press conference said, “Malaysia do not see any change in the weather conditions and are comfortable playing here.”
