Young and ambitious team sets sights on a strong performance.
The Thailand women's Hockey team has arrived in Ranchi for the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023, where they were welcomed with the joyful sounds of drums and fireworks at the Birsa Munda Airport.
The highly anticipated Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 is scheduled to take place at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh AstroTurf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi from October 27th to November 5th. Thailand will face formidable opponents, including Malaysia, China, Korea, Japan, and hosts India, in this prestigious event.
This marks Thailand's second appearance in the competition, with their debut in the Donghae Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2021 held in South Korea, where they finished in 4th place. In that tournament, they faced the Indian Women's Hockey Team in the opening match, which resulted in a 13-0 loss. Thailand will once again go up against hosts India in the last match of the day on October 27th.
Head Coach Young Wook Bae expressed his ambitions for the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023, stating, "After our participation in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, we had two weeks to prepare our team for the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023. We have done our best, and we aim to improve our performances and return home as the best in the tournament."
Thailand's Women's Hockey Team participating in the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023 is relatively young, with 7 players out of the squad of 18 still in their teens. The youngest among them is Parichart Phopool, a 15-year-old with 6 international caps to her name.
"We need to be watchful of Malaysia, as we have played them 5 times recently without a win. Our goal is to set the record straight against them. China is a strong team, so we will emphasize our defense against them. Of course, we have to be cautious when facing India.
We have many young players in the team, with the youngest being a 15-year-old, but we believe they can perform at this level, which is why we have included them," commented Thailand Captain Anongnat Piresram in anticipation of the tournament.
