Two Indian players are on the list.

Field Hockey has grown as a sport in many ways over the course of history. But one thing that has been definitive and unchanged is the need for prolific goal-scorers who are able to win matches for their teams and stand out from the rest. Indian hockey icon Dhyan Chand set an incredible bar in terms of scoring goals, having recorded 570 goals in International Hockey during his career.

While it’ll be a gigantic task for any player to match that, there are some active Hockey stars who have proven themselves as clutch, efficient goal-scorers too.

The special thing about Field Hockey is that a goal-scorer isn’t assigned to a particular position, meaning that a defender has equal chances of scoring goals as a forward. Over the last decade or so, Field Hockey has seen rise of some impeccable players who have maintained admirable consistency when it comes to scoring goals.

Here’s a look at the top active goal-scorers in men’s field hockey, including where Harmanpreet Singh ranks:

Top active players with most goals in men’s hockey

5. Mandeep Singh (117 goals)

Mandeep Singh, who has been a reliable forward for India since 2013, has been crucial to the team’s success over the last decade. He has played in over 240 matches for India and helped them win two Olympic bronze medals and two gold medals at the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Mandeep scored an important goal against New Zealand, bringing his total to 117 goals at the age of 29

4. Razie Rahim (143 goals)

Malaysian defender Razie Rahim, now 36, is still a key player for his national team, which he has represented since 2006. He is known for his skill in penalty corners and has scored 143 goals in over 230 international matches. Rahim has been essential in Malaysia’s achievements, including winning silver medals at the 2010 and 2018 Asian Games.
