The Indian men’s hockey team will eye a repeat of yesterday’s performance when they face Germany in the reverse fixture in Men’s FIH Pro League 2025-26. India defeated the World Champions 3-1 in the first meeting on Wednesday, registering their first win in the competition this season.

India rode on first quarter goals from Mandeep Singh and Shilanand Lakra before Nilkanta Sharma made it 3-0 in the third quarter to put Craig Fulton’s side in command. Although Germany pulled back a goal soon after it was too high a mountain to climb for them.

The victory halted India’s winless run of nine consecutive matches in the competition, starting with the home leg back in February—where they lost all four matches.

That was followed by the disappointing Hobart leg, where despite putting up better performances all India could manage was draws against hosts Australia and Spain and a shootout win.

It seemed like that would continue after the Men in Blue began their European leg in Rotterdam with a close 2-3 loss against the hosts Netherlands.

However, Wednesday’s impressive performance put points on the board as well as lifted spirits. India remain in eighth place for now, with seven points from 10 games.

A similar result on Thursday could lift India above Spain to the seventh position.

World No. 5 Germany are sixth in the standings with three wins and 11 points after 10 matches. They are now winless in their last three matches, which includes two losses. Germany did hold the reigning Olympic and Pro League champions, Netherlands, to a draw in their first match of the Dutch leg.
