As hosts of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, the Indian men’s hockey team will be the title favourites and carry expectations of the entire country on their back. As their final preparation for the upcoming tournament, India will face Australia in a high-stake four-match test series

India’s tour of Australia will begin on August 15 and conclude on August 21.

Ahead of their departure for Australia, captain Harmanpreet Singh, speaking before departure, said, “Playing Australia in their home conditions is always a great challenge, and that’s exactly what we need at this stage of our preparations. We’re treating this series as a key part of our build-up to the Asia Cup.

The focus is on improving as a unit, pushing ourselves against strong opposition, and building the momentum we need going into Rajgir.”

“The mood in the camp has been really positive. We’ve had a good training block and now it’s time to translate that onto the field. These matches will help us identify areas we need to sharpen before the Asia Cup, and we’re excited for the opportunity to play high-intensity hockey against Australia,” he added.

Apart from using it as a final preparation, India will also be eager to bounce back from a disappointing Men’s FIH Pro League 2024-25, where they managed only six wins in 16 matches, slipping to eighth place in the FIH World Rankings with 2733.01 points.

Australia currently sit sixth with 2857.27 points. In the European leg matches the Men in Blue remained winless.

However, in their last match after suffering seven consecutive defeats in Europe, India broke the winless streak with a 4-3 victory over Belgium in Antwerp and now they will look to carry that momentum forward in the hockey series against Australia.
