Hockey: India vs Netherlands last five meetings

India have won two of their last five matches against the Netherlands.

The hockey matches between India and the Netherlands have become some of the most exciting contests in international hockey over the years.

The two teams have played out close battles filled with late goals, tense finishes and moments of individual brilliance.

While the Netherlands have managed to edge a few of the recent encounters, India have matched them step for step and often taken the game down to the final whistle. Here’s a look at how the last five meetings between these two top teams unfolded.

India vs Netherlands hockey last five meetings

5. Netherlands 3–2 India (9 June, 2025)

Inda narrowly lost 3-2 to world No. 1 Netherlands in their FIH Pro League 2024-25 match at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.

Abhishek opened the scoring in his 100th international match, while Jugraj Singh later equalised through a penalty corner.

The Dutch responded through Thijs van Dam, Tjep Hoedemakers and a late penalty corner conversion by Jip Janssen to seal the win. India created several chances, including multiple penalty corners, but fell short in the closing minutes.

4. Netherlands 2-1 India (7 June, 2025)

India fought hard but fell 2-1 to the Netherlands in their FIH Pro League 2024-25 match in Amstelveen. Captain Harmanpreet Singh gave India the lead in the second quarter with a powerful penalty corner.

The Dutch hit back before half-time through Thijs van Dam and kept building pressure as the game went on. India tried to stay solid at the back and looked for chances on the counter, but clear opportunities were limited. In the final minutes, Van Dam struck again to hand the hosts victory.

3. India 1–1 (2–4 SO) Netherlands (21 Feb 2024)

The Dutch side was hurting and determined for revenge when they faced India in the reverse fixture of the 2023/24 FIH Hockey Pro League clash in February earlier this year. They started the clash in an all-guns-blazing fashion, with Floris Middendorp giving them the lead in the 4th minute.

Despite strong pressure from the Netherlands, India bounced back in the third quarter, and Hardik Singh scored the equalizer in the 38th minute. After the end of regulation time, the scores were leveled at 1-1, and the match was forced into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Sukhjeet Singh and Shamsher Singh missed their penalty attempts as Dutch goalkeeper Maurits Visser made two saves. Meanwhile, Sreejesh only saved one penalty, with the Netherlands getting a 4-2 win in the shootout to claim the win.

2. India 2-2 (4-2) Netherlands (11 February 2024)

In the two sides’ first match at the 2023/24 FIH Hockey Pro League in Bhubaneswar, India, and the Netherlands played out a highly entertaining game. The Indian side started the game with confidence and midfielder Hardik Singh scored an impressive effort in the 13th minute to give his side the lead.

However, in the 30th minute, Dutch defender Jip Janssen scored the equalizer. Eight minutes after that, the Netherlands took the lead when their forward Koen Bijen produced an impressive goal. It appeared that India were destined to lose heading into the final bits of the game, but then captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a superb penalty corner in the 58th minute.

A penalty shootout was forced and Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh showcased his exceptional quality here, saving both Jorrit Croon and Jonas de Geus penalties and seeing his teammates convert all their efforts to get a big win.

1. India 1–1 Netherlands (26 July 2023)

India played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against world No. 1 Netherlands at the Torneo del Centenario 2023 in Spain.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh gave India the lead in the first quarter with a well-executed penalty corner. The team created several more chances but could not extend the advantage.

The Netherlands increased the pressure after half-time and equalised through Jasper Brinkman from a penalty corner.

Both sides had opportunities in the closing stages but failed to find a winner. The result earned India their first point of the tournament after an opening loss to Spain.
