Hockey India launches new initiative 'Match Officials Education & Development Plan' for potential umpires and technical officials

Hockey India aims to give exposure to officials by giving them opportunities at the national level.

Hockey India has launched its Match Officials Education & Development Plan as part of the induction programme for Potential Umpires and Technical Officials in the Hockey India officiating system. This initiative aims to develop and educate the current officials officiating at district or state level tournaments, providing them with an opportunity to progress to the status of Hockey India registered National Umpire/Technical Official.

The educational plan will provide officials with the opportunity to advance and be inducted into the Hockey India officiating system. This initiative will initially enable them to officiate in Hockey India sanctioned All India Sub Junior & Junior category Tournaments & National Championships.

The Eligibility Criteria for State Level Panel Courses are:  

  • Technical Officials Courses: Age eligibility is up to 35 years.
  • Umpire Courses: Age eligibility is up to 25 years.
  • Officials must not have any standing disciplinary action against them.
  • A minimum of 2 years officiating experience in State Level Championships.
  • A genuine interest in developing as a Hockey India Match Official.

The selected candidates will attend the Hockey India Umpires & Technical Officials courses scheduled for June 2024, which will be held across Four zones and also for North East States: Gwalior, Pune, Kadapa, Jamshedpur and Guwahati.

Course Schedule:

The details of the State Level Courses scheduled for June 2024 are mentioned below:

  1. North Zone (Technical Officials & Umpires):
  • Dates: 3rd to 5th June 2024
  • Venue: Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh

2. West Zone (Technical Officials & Umpires):  

  • Dates: 7th to 9th June 2024
  • Venue: Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra

3. South Zone (Technical Officials & Umpires):  

  • Dates: 11th to 13th June 2024
  • Venue: Dr YSR Sports Complex, Pullivendalla, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh

4. East Zone (Technical Officials & Umpires):  

  • Dates: 15th to 17th June 2024
  • Venue: Naval Tata, Hockey Academy Jamshedpur, Jharkhand

5. North East States (Technical Officials & Umpires):  

  • Dates: 20th to 22nd June 2024
  • Venue: Lakshmibai National Institute Of Physical Education (LNIPE), Guwahati, Assam

Notably, selected officials will receive interactive learning and study material, keeping them updated with the latest FIH rules and regulations. They will be assessed by a highly experienced team of Hockey India registered Technical Delegates/Umpire Managers. Based on their assessments by experienced Hockey India registered Technical Delegates/Umpire Managers, they will have the opportunity to upgrade themselves and be eligible to attend the Hockey India Zonal Level Courses. Furthermore, they will be eligible to attend FIH Academy & AHF Courses and workshops.

Hockey India President Dr Dilip Kumar Tirkey said,“This initiative portrays Hockey India’s commitment towards strengthening the officiating standards in Indian hockey. By providing comprehensive education and assessment, we aim to elevate the quality and professionalism of our Umpires and Technical Officials. It’s our responsibility to ensure that our officials are well-equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively at both national and international levels.”
