Indian men’s hockey team registered a scintillating comeback against Spain.

The Indian men’s hockey team made the country proud and gave goalkeeping stalwart, PR Sreejesh an fitting send-off, with a 2-1 win over the Spain in the bronze medal match at Paris Olympics 2024. Led by an outstanding captain in Harmanpreet Singh, India started the game with an early deficit as Spain went ahead in the 18th minute.

The skipper stepped up at the half hour mark to overturn his Spanish counterpart’s penalty stroke and get the Men in Blue on level terms. Shortly afterward, Harmanpreet proved his worth as a leader as he completed a brace in the 33rd minute.

Despite an intense first quarter, the Indian squadron went behind the Spanish Armada who came calling in the second quarter. Manpreet Singh’s unwarranted foul gave inside the D allowing the Spaniards to clinch the lead.

The player made amends by earning India a penalty corner from which the captain scored the winner in the 33rd minute. With this victory, India have repeated their back-to-back medal-winning feat at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, as they also secured two consecutive bronze medals in men’s hockey.
