Their inspirational run at Paris has been appreciated by Odisha’s and Punjab’s governments. Both the state governments have announced cash prizes for the players who led the nation into the podium at Paris.

The Indian men’s hockey team had scripted history following a 2-1 win over Spain in the bronze medal playoffs at Paris Olympics. It was the first time in 52 years that the squad had won consecutive Olympic medals.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh was the leading goal scorer at Paris with 10 goals in eight matches. The 28-year-old scored at least a single goal in seven matches and scored a brace in the bronze medal playoffs against Spain.
The men in blue collected their 13th Olympic medal in hockey. It was a special farewell for PR Sreejesh as he ended his career with a podium finish. There were further celebrations as Sreejesh was named as the co-flagbearer for the closing ceremony on August 11 alongside shooter and two-time bronze medallist Manu Bhaker.
The men’s hockey squad will now aim for higher benchmarks. With sound financial backing and support, the men’s hockey side will grow stronger and bring in more accolades for the nation.
