Top five players with most goals in Asia Cup Hockey 2022
All players scored five or more goals in the competition.
The recently concluded Men's Asia Cup 2022 saw an array of goals. The eight teams involved scored exactly 150 goals in 24 matches at the rate of 6.25 goals per match. Hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia it saw goals being scored in almost every game. The scorers made it a nightmare for the defenders and goalkeepers alike.
Here we loom at the top five scorers in the recently concluded Asia Cup Hockey.
5.Dipsan Tirkey/Ashran Hamsani/ Hwang Tae-il (5 goals)
Three players tied in the same spot with the same number of goals. That tells you the story about how much the strikers were on point.
India's Dipsan Tirkey scored five goals in the same match in a 16-0 hammering of Indonesia. Malaysia's Ashran scored once against Oman, South Korea and Bangladesh in the group stages. He followed it up with more goals in the placement rounds against South Korea and Japan.
South Korea's Hwang scored a brace against Bangladesh. He scored once against Oman . However his last goal was the best of the lot. His goal in the 52nd minute proved to be the winning goal in the finals against Malaysia.
4.Jang Jong Hyun ( 6 goals)
South Korea's Jang Jong Hyun a two time gold medalist was also the top scorer in Asia Cup Hockey 2013 with eight goals. In the 2017 edition he scored three goals. This year, he bettered himself than his last exploit adding six to his name. Moreover he was also adjudged the best player in the tournament.
3.Rizwan Ali ( 6 goals)
Rizwan Ali also shares the distinction of scoring six goals in the Hockey Asia Cup. The penalty corner specialist is the new rising star of Pakistan.
Rizwan is a very proficient penalty corner specialist. The former kabaddi player is lethal in the box. He was at his best against Malaysia.
Ali scored three devastating goals all through precisely struck penalty corners. The shots rippled through the nets leaving the goalkeeper and even the defenders with no chance to block.
2. Koji Yamasaki(6 goals)
Koji Yamasaki is not new to taste success in Indonesia. He is a former and gold medalist in the Asian Games in Jakarta. The first gold medal that Japan won in men's hockey in that particular tournament.
Yamasaki's goals came against India in a 5-2 win and South Korea in a 3-1 loss. The remaining four came against Indonesia in matter of a few minutes (15', 21',22',35').
1.Razie Rahim (13 goals)
The experienced defender of the Malaysian hockey team, Rahim was on song at the Hockey Asia Cup.
Razie scored 13 goals for his nation and became the highest goalscorer in the tournament. The 34-year-old truly showed his class and experience. He announced himself with a hattrick against Oman in the opening game. He scored two more hattricks against Bangladesh and India respectively.
However, even after this one-man show, Razie had to settle for silver.
