Delhi SG Pipers will face Odisha Warriors in the opening match of the Women’s Hockey India League 2025.

Women’s Hockey is set to see a new sunshine, as the Women’s Hockey India League 2025 is set to commence on January 12. This is the first time, for any sport, that a league is being held at the national level in India, with both the men’s and women’s competitions being played simultaneously.

There are four teams, with two more to be added next year. The inaugural edition will see Odisha Warriors, Soorma Hockey Club, Delhi SG Pipers and Shrachi Rrah Bengal Tigers compete for the top honours. Odisha Warriors bring their coastal dynamism, while Delhi SG Pipers represent the capital’s sporting legacy.

Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers embody the East’s hockey tradition, and Soorma Hockey Club adds their unique flair to the mix. The championship battle unfolds over two weeks, culminating in a Republic Day finale on January 26. Beyond scores and statistics, this league represents a watershed moment for aspiring female athletes across India. 

As Delhi SG Pipers and Odisha Warriors prepare for the opening clash, they’ll set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying competition.

When and where will the Women’s Hockey India League take place?

The inaugural edition of the Women’s Hockey India League will kick off on January 12, 2025.

Dates: January 12 to January 26, 2025

Location: Mostly at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Ranchi, Jharkhand, with some matches in Rourkela

The Women’s Hockey India League will be in a double round-robin knockout format. Each team will play each other twice in the league stage. The top two teams will qualify for the finals which will be held on 26 January 2025.
