Indian Sports Calendar April 2025: IPL, Badminton Asia Championships, Diamond League and more events to watch

The month of April in Indian sports calendar will witness several key events, including the first Diamond League event of the year.

The month of March witnessed Indian athletes deliver remarkable performances in various sporting competitions, including the ICC Champions Trophy (Cricket), FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup (Basketball), and Asian Wrestling Championships, among other prestigious events.

Meanwhile, Indian table tennis legend Sharath Kamal retired from the sport after a distinguished career, during which he won multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Championships, and Asian Games, among others.

In April, Indian athletes will aim for an impactful show across multiple international competitions including Indian Premier League, Archery World Cup Stage 1, Badminton Asia Championships, BWF Sudirman Cup Finals and ISSF Rifle/Shotgun/Pistol World Cup. With this, let’s look at the schedule for the month of April.

Aquatics

The Inter-Club Waterpolo Cup U21 is one of the events to watch out for in April 2025.

  • April 14-18: All India U21 Inter-Club Waterpolo Cup (Men & Women)

Archery

The biggest tournament happening in Archery in April is none other than Archery World Cup Stage 1 which will feature many talented archers from the nation competing at the tournament.

  • April 7-14: World Cup Stage 1, Florida
  • April (TBD): Selection Trial for World Archery Youth Championships, Selection Trial for World Archery Para Championships/Fazza WRT
  • April 25-27: Final NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament

Athletics

In Athletics, four Indian Open Athletics Meetings will be held across four different cities of the country. Additionally, the TCS World 10K Run and Senior Athletics Championships are two other events to look out for in April. The Diamond League calendar will also kick-off with the Xiamen leg on April 26.

  • April 5: Indian Open Athletics Meetings (Nadia, West Bengal)
  • April 10: Indian Open Athletics Meetings (Ranchi, Jharkhand)

  • April 19: Indian Open Race Walking Competition
  • April 21-24: National Federation Senior Athletics Championships
  • April 26-27: Xiamen Diamond League
  • April 27: TCS World 10K Run
  • April 30: 2nd National Open Relay Carnival

Badminton

The Badminton Asia Championships and Sudirman Cup are the biggest badminton events taking place this month.

Basketball

The tournaments basketball tournaments to watch out for in the month of April 2025 are:

  • April 2-6: SABA Club Championship (Men & Women)
  • April 9-15: Youth (U16) National Basketball Championship

Boxing

The first Boxing World Cup of the year will take place in Brazil.

  • March 31-5 April: World Boxing Cup, Brazil

Chess

The chess events to watch out for in April are as follows-

  • April 1-23: Women’s World Championship, Shanghai
  • April 12-18: FIDE World Cadet & Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships, Greece
  • April 13-24: FIDE Women’s Grand Prix Series – 5th leg

Cricket

The Indian Premier League, the world’s biggest cricket league, will run throughout April. While the tournament began in March, it is set to conclude in May. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s cricket team will compete in a tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

  • April 27-11 May: India women vs Sri Lanka vs South Africa (ODI Tri-series)

Fencing

The Junior & Cadet Fencing World Championships are the biggest fencing tournaments being staged in Wuxi, China from April 7 to 15, 2025.

Football

The Indian Super League playoffs are slated for April, making them ones to watch out for.

Golf

Many Indian golfers are set to feature in multiple tournaments scheduled in April. They are as follows:

  • April 3-6: Joburg Ladies Open
  • April 10-13: South African Women’s Open

  • April 24-27: Hainan Classic
  • April 24-27: The Chevron Championship

Gymnastics

Indian artistic gymnastics are expected to compete at the Osijek, Doha and Cairo World Cups, scheduled in the month of April.

  • April 10-13: FIG World Cup Croatia, Osijek
  • April 16-19: FIG World Cup Qatar, Doha
  • April 25-28: FIG World Cup Egypt, Cairo

Shooting

Eyes will be on Indian shooters when they take center stage in Argentina and Peru for the ISSF Rifle/Shotgun/Pistol World Cup events. In 2024, India displayed its excellence in shooting at the Paris Olympics and will hope to continue their success in this season.

Table Tennis

Indian table tennis players are set to feature in three WTT events in April, including at the WTT Champions Incheon.

  • April 14-20: ITTF World Cup, Macao
  • April 22-27: WTT Contender Tunis

Tennis

Following are the ATP Masters tennis events to look forward to in March:

  • April 7-13: Monte Carlo Masters
  • April 8-12: Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group 1 tie, Pune
  • April 21-28: Madrid Open
