PKL Auction: Mohammad Nabibakhsh bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 22 lakh
He will join compatriot Fazel Atrachali in the Giants' camp for PKL season 10.
Iran's Mohammad Nabibakhsh was sold to Gujarat Giants for Rs 22 lakh in Pro Kabaddi League season 10 auction. The 32-year-old joins his countrymate Fazel Atrachali who was earlier signed by Gujarat Giants for a whopping Rs 1.60 crore. This is the second successive time both Iranian stars will be joining hands together after having played for Puneri Paltan last season.
Nabibaksh had a sub-par season in PKL 9 having scored only 36 points from 15 matches. He played a key role in the semifinals which was the only significant contribution he made last season. He was trusted by his compatriot Fazel throughout the season but could bring out his best.
The Iranian started his PKL campaign in season 7 plying his trade for Bengal Warriors. Furthermore, he was the most expensive foreign buy of the season at Rs 77.75 lakh. In his opening match, Nabibakhsh scored a Super 10 and proved his mettle straight away. Apart from raiding, he also played a significant role in the defence and was one of the few players to score a Super 10 and High 5 in a single match.
Bengal Warriors progressed to the final in season 7 but captain Maninder Singh was sidelined for the final due to a shoulder injury. In his absence, Nabibaksh took over the captaincy and led the franchise to their maiden title. He scored a total of 122 points - raid points (92) and tackle points (30). Although the numbers aren't massive, the Iranian international's contribution was significant at crucial junctures.
In the three seasons Nabibaksh has participated so far, the all-rounder has scored 266 points. With Gujarat Giants predominantly being a defence heavy side, Nabibaksh will be used for his defensive prowess.
