Revealed: Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) elections date announced

Kabaddi Federation Elections are going to be held after a long wait of four years.
The second round election of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), India’s administrative body for Kabaddi will be held on the 24th of December in Delhi. The announcement comes after the judgment passed by the Honourable Delhi High Court. The Annual General Body meeting will also happen on the day which will oversee the election.
The first round of election happened on the 15th of February 2019 and notifications were released for the second round of election to happen on the 1st of September 2019. But the Delhi High Court stated a stay on the elections citing violations in age and tenure rules. The stay came after multiple petitions were filed and the Court decided to hear the pleas to ensure fair conduct of the elections.
A judgment passed in February 2023 ruled that district and state kabaddi associations must adhere to the age and tenure restrictions to be recognized and affiliated with the AKFI. The National Sports Development Code places age and tenure requirements on members of the governing body were guidelines set for the body and directed them to complete the election in three months.
Elections could not be held in May
Again in May 2023 when the Electoral College was released, the High Court stayed the notification for the elections stating that 13 nominations were ineligible. Either by age or the person was irrelevant to the support was nominated by the state association. The court asked AKFI to reply by July 24 to which, the AKFI issued notifications to all the state associations.
After consideration and further pleas, all state associations released their new set of nominations. As per the press release 28 associations have released their two nominations as of December 9th. With the nominated people, the elections will happen in Delhi on the 24th and the venue will be announced in a day or two.
